In a Nutshell
We're four musicians who play and sing a wide variety of traditional and popular music from the era of sea shanties right up to the present day. You'll hear Irish ballads, rebel songs, Beatles tunes, James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, Dylan, and many other styles and songsmiths represented in our performances - each tune transformed by our unique blend of drums, guitar, cello, and vocal harmonies.
Meet Rural Legend!
Introducing...

Jim Kirchmyer - Cello & Backing Vocals The elder statesman of Rural Legend, Jim's fine cello work gives us a very unique sound. Jim makes his home in Hebron, CT. He's retired, but remains very active in the music community. When not performing with various ensembles, singing with the New England Chamber Choir, or traveling the country visiting family, Jim spends his time napping and practicing his German. "Ich bin ein Berliner!"

Mark Weaver - Lead Vocals & Percussion Mark has been layin' it down on the drums and singing in local bands for over 20 years. He formed The Marksmen (renamed in 2013 to Rural Legend) in 1998, with the help of guitarist Steve Nivison and harmony master Jack Burns. Mark currently lives in Tolland, CT, and proudly teaches elementary school in the East Hartford school district. Despite this, Mark still possesses most of his sanity. We think.

Steve Nivison - Guitars & Backing Vocals Another founding member of The Marksmen, Steve is no stranger to the local music scene. He has been performing in local bands for well over two decades. Steve's tasteful, steady, melodic guitar work is a Rural Legend trademark. Steve resides in Middletown, CT, and by day (and occasionally at night), he works as a respiratory therapist. He helps our music to "breathe".
